In action

Smart Africa is a strategic partner of the German development cooperation and a driving force behind the digital transformation in Africa. Cooperation with the Alliance extends to a range of areas: Smart Africa is a close implementing partner of the flagship atingi project, the e-learning platform developed by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and GIZ. The “FAIR Forward – Artificial Intelligence for All” initiative developed together with Smart Africa provides a regional AI blueprint for supporting the open and sustainable development and use of artificial intelligence. In addition, Smart Africa is also working together with the German development cooperation in the work on digital identities, data markets and in innovative processes such as the implementation of the #Smart Development Hack.

Smart Africa is part of the Digital4Development(D4D) hub – the network of like-minded D4D EU member states and the European Commission. The hub is looking to support the European D4D agenda by promoting the #TeamEurope approach. Specifically, this means using the existing European D4D expertise and working closely together with European technology companies – for instance, as part of the D4D coalition. The hub is an open platform that integrates European, African and, in a second step, global partners for digital transformation.
