ITU

At a glance

Specialised agency of the United Nations for information and communication technologies. The International Telecommunication Union is focussed on facilitating access to and exchanges between global IT networks and digital technologies.

In action

The ITU is part of the initiative for developing interoperable ICT building blocks. It is working together with DIAL, the Estonian Foreign Ministry and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to develop standards-based, secure, interoperable and reusable software building blocks (ICT building blocks).

As an application example, the group is currently developing a digital SDG platform based on these software building blocks. The use of an open source code (open source) means that the building blocks are available to government authorities, companies as well as research institutions as a digital public good (DPG). This enables the cost-effective, faster and integrated development and use of digital services and applications.
