In development cooperation, more and more non-traditional, external data is available, be it sensor data, satellite data, data from social media and mobile phone providers or data from digital applications (so-called Big Data). This data can be systematically used for evidenced-based decision-making – also within the regulatory scope of current data protection. In order to jointly test this use of data, the BMZ has launched a Community of Practice (CoP). The monthly format offers an exchange platform for various actors in German development cooperation. The basis is the discussion paper “Data for Development”.
