Digital trade offers considerable potential for broader reach, improving employment and economic growth. New platforms for digital trade reduce the significance of distance between supply and demand sides, allowing businesses in developing nations in particular the opportunity to enter new markets and participate in international trade.

WiDu Initiative

WiDu is an initiative launched jointly by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and GIZ to reshape funding for small businesses in Africa. The aim is to multiply private payments from African diaspora in Germany – known as remittances – through public subsidies, to jointly create opportunities and jobs in Africa.
